Château Lagrange – a brief history
This 3rd growth producer from Saint Julien had historically been a sister property of Brane Cantenac and Brane Mouton (or Mouton Rothschild as it is known nowadays). Rather like Figeac, Lagrange’s massive 280-hectare estate was partially sold to respectable neighbours – in this case, to Ducru Beaucaillou and Gloria, over the years. Since 1983, Japanese corporation Suntory has injected substantial funds and efforts in Lagrange and its 118-hectare single block vineyard. This evening, we are tasting not only the vintage difference and terroir specificities of Lagrange, but also the past 3 decades of devoted efforts of its Japanese owner.
