Pinot Noir Around the World (Episode 6)
Sunday September 27, 2009
Charmes-Chambertin, Domaine Dujac 2004
Workshop is designed to achieve the following:
i) Understand what makes Pinot Noir such a temperamental but sexy grape;
ii)  Explore regions producing top Pinot Noirs;
iii) Experience the difference terroirs and tradition have on the wines.

Featured wines include:
Charmes-Chambertin, Domaine Dujac, 2004  (Burgundy)
"Seductive mix of wood spice, high-toned red berry fruit aromas and warm earth undertones give way to round, rich and sappy flavors that offer excellent volume and a delicious yet serious finale. There is a bit more underlying material compared to the Combottes with enough structure to suggest at least a decade's worth of potential improvement." -- Burghound 90-93 pts.

Alois Lageder Pinot Noir 2005  (Italy)
Alois Lageder is one of Italy's foremost winemakers.  Located in the mountainous Alto Adige region, the vines enjoy cool nights and warm days which are perfect for preserving the grapes' natural aromas and acidity.
Clean notes of red fruits, cherries and spices.  Mild and easy on the palate.  The style is all about freshness, elegance, and purity of fruit.

Riposte Pinot Noir 2007 (Australia)
Made by Tim Knappstein (noimated seventh time as the best Pinot Noir producer in South Australia), Riposte is made with grapes from a single vineyard in the Adelaide Hills.   Nominated Hot 100 SA Wines.  Wine Front 94 pts.
The wine is fairly full in the mouth for a Pinot Noir with good fruit, and tannic structure from 10 months in oak.  Soft and supple, it pairs well with game but would also stand up to heartier red meat dishes.

Amisfield Pinot Noir Central Otago 2006  (New Zealand)
"Very good intensity to berry, black cherry and roast duck flavors, with plenty of cedary oak and stony notes extending through the taut, tannic finish. Needs time to show its best. Best from 2009 through 2012. Tasted twice, with consistent notes." -- WS 90 pts.
