Pol Roger Vintage Brut Champagne from the 2000 vintage, a wine that was possibly the best value vintage Champagne tasted for a long time was discovered.
With the 2002 vintage in Champagne widely lauded as the best vintage in a long time (some suggest since 1990) and 10 years of cellaring (slightly longer than typical for Pol Roger’s Vintage Brut releases, the bar is set high for this Pol Roger 2002 Vintage Brut.
Appearance: A golden yellow straw-like colour, bright and full of intensity with attractive lingering bubbles.Aroma: A fine nose with enticing notes of fresh honey, candied grapefruit and lime.
Palate: A dominating fruitiness with light biscuit character. A full and long texture displaying freshness and vinosity. The wine is balanced with remarkable harmony. An amazingly pure champagne.
Robert Parker 93: "Pol Roger’s 2002 Brut Extra Cuvee de Reserve is rich, creamy and seductive. An expressive, layered wine, the 2002 impresses for its overall harmony and balance. Light floral honey, mint, tangerine, cinnamon and dried pears are all woven together in this gracious, impeccable Champagne. This is a fairly reserved style for the year, but it works. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022.
Wine Spectator 93: "Exuberant, yet graceful overall, with rich notes of ripe pineapple, guava, honey and baked peach mixing with a minerally undertow and accents of grated ginger, biscuit and fresh quince. Mouthwatering finish. Drink now through 2027. 200 cases imported."
