Champagne Pierre Gimonnet et Fils is a rare phenomenon in Champagne with 25 hectares of vines planted exclusively with Chardonnay, from which they produce refined Blanc de Blancs cuvees of distinction. Over the last 3 generations, they have refined the Gimonnet style, creating a marriage of expressions between the Chardonnay grape and the unique terroir of their wonderful Cuis Premier Cru, Cramant and Chouilly Grand Cru vineyards.
The aim of the House is to extract maximum expression from the grapes and terroir. With 16 hectares in Premier Cru vineyards and 12 hectares in Grand Cru vineyards nestling in the heart of the Cote des Blancs, they are ideally placed to cultivate some of the region's finest Chardonnay.
Appearance: Pale Gold
Aroma: Delicate floral note with lemon zest on the nose.
Palate: On the palate a racy, energetic feel with nuances of stonefruit, acacia, brioche and underlying minerality. Lovely purity and vitality run like a vein through the wine, which has a long, crisp, slightly nutty finish. Exemplary Blanc de Blancs and great aperitif style. Brisk and compact, exhibiting apple, floral and lemon notes on a lean profile. Nicely balanced and crisp on the finish.
Robert Parker 88: "Reflecting vintages 2007- 2010 – but overwhelmingly 2010 – as well including a smidgeon of 2002, Gimonnet’s NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Cuis 750 ml. Disg. 5/2013 exhibits crisp and juicy apple and cucumber tinged with chalk and pips, its palate impression notably polished and buoyant, and its understated finish pretty and persistent. It may well be worth revisiting for a couple of years. I have mentioned bottle size as part of this wine’s name because the magnums disgorged at the same time and under an otherwise identical label represent, confusingly, an entirely different base wine."
Wine Spectator 91: "Firm and well-knit, this lacy version offers a subtle mix of Dijon pear, smoke, fleur de sel, fresh ginger and slivered almond notes. Disgorged November 27, 2013. Drink now through 2020."
