Taittinger Prestige Rose

Taittinger Prestige Rose
Item No. FR3-1444DNVB
Taittinger remains one of the few Houses to be owned and actively managed by the family named on the label. Its origins date back to 1734 when the original house was founded by Jacques Fourneaux. The Taittinger link was established in 1931 when Pierre Taittinger, the founder of today's company acquired the House. Pierre had spent much time in the Champagne region when serving in the 1st world war as a young cavalry officer. Stationed at the Château de la Marquetterie, he fell in love with this remarkable property and its vineyards and eventually purchased the company. Today, the Reims based House is headed by Pierre's grandson, Pierre-Emmanual Taittinger and his son and daughter, Clovis and Vitalie.

The hallmark of the Taittinger Champagnes is the high percentage of Chardonnay used in their winemaking which can be anything from 40% in the Brut Réserve Non Vintage to 100% in the prestigious Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs. This Chardonnay dominance provides for a style of elegance, delicacy and finesse which is recognised worldwide and has earned the House many accolades and awards over the years. The Taittinger champagnes are also famous for their cellars, which were excavated from the caves of the fourth century.

Taittinger Prestige Rose immediately stands out for its intense, shimmering hue whose secret lies in the fact that it is a blend, which is more complex and costly to produce. A quantity of still red wine (15%) produced from the best Pinot Noirs from Montagne de Reims and Les Riceys is added to the final blend, to give this cuvee its unmistakable color and vibrant intensity on the palate. The high proportion of Chardonnay (30%) that completes the blend brings the elegance and delicacy that underpin Taittinger’s signature style. This Rose can be enjoyed both early on and at the end of an evening. Deliciously fragranced for an aperitif, it is also a subtle accompaniment to fruit desserts, including fruit tart, fruit salad and red fruit crumble.

Appearance: The intense and brilliant body is bright pink in color. The bubbles are fine, and the mousse persistent.
Aroma: The full nose, wonderfully expressive, is both fresh and young. It gives off aromas of red fruits of freshly crushed wild raspberry, cherry, blackcurrant.
Palate: On the palate, this wine strikes a fine balance between velvety and full-bodied. The flavors are reminiscent of fresh, crisp red fruits. It can be summed up in four words: lively, fruity, fresh and elegant, as only a rose blend can be.

Wine Spectator 90: "Firm and spicy, this chalky rosé shows tightly knit flavors of black raspberry and cherry fruit, fresh ginger and pink grapefruit zest, with hints of honey and almond skin. Drink now through 2018. 1,500 cases imported."
